Trip Home to Taiwan

Hello again,

So I'm finally visiting Taiwan after a good two years since I last visited! I'm feeling super excited about what this trip has in for me and I can't wait to explore my home country and catch up with all of my family members who live back in Taiwan.

So we hopped onto the plane and after a good nine and a half hours we arrived in Taipei, Taiwan! Every single time I visit, we eat our first meal at a local authentic Taiwanese street food van (which has now worked it's way up and turned into a small store). This store has been around for a good twenty to thirty years ever since my mum was a kid!

They sell all sorts of traditional foods of Taiwan, starting from a variety of rice, noodles, soups and many side dishes too. We absolutely love everything they make and the best part is not only is it extremely delicious it is also extremely cheap! All of the below would've only costed around seven dollars only!

I always order the minced pork rice and along with some side dishes and soup to share! The side dishes we always order are the fried bean curd tofu, seaweed and boiled veges with pork mince.

This time visiting, my cousin also brought us to a popular Japanese styled pork cutlet restaurant called Saboten "勝博殿" which is honestly one of my favourite pork cutlets so far! The service was great and the food & price were both amazing. We ordered combo sets which included green tea ice-cream (delicious!) and also some tea.

We ordered so much food and finished it all because it was just that good! Love eating the complimentary cabbage that they give you along with your meals to make it feel less heavy. The side dishes were also tasty as well! Where as the pork cutlets itself came in a huge variety, you could order different cuts of pork, and pretty sure they offered chicken as well? My favourite was the pork cutlet with cheese and asparagus... it was just absolutely delicious and very juicy as well!

We also frequently went to the popular Taipei Station shopping mall also known as Q Square 京站時尚廣場 for shopping and would often just drop by their food court as there is a wide variety and selections that you can choose from. All types of cuisines and ranges from foods to desserts and drinks specialty stores! It was often extremely busy all the time so we always tried to avoid peak hours.

Another place that I decided to visit in the first few days of Taiwan was this little food van/small store which has also been around for thirty or so years. My mum used to eat here when she was in high school... So we decided to eat here before going to watch a movie which was close by! This small store specialises in Squid Soup "魷魚羹".

We ordered two bowls of squid soup - one with noodles and the other with rice noodles, also got some side dishes to share: bean curd, pig ears and boiled veges!

Honestly, one thing that I enjoy the most in Taiwan apart from getting to see family and friends is most possibly the FOOD. I am extremely obsessed with the food in Taiwan, there just a never ending amount of dishes that you can try and everything is truly delicious despite how weird or disgusting it may sound... but if any of you ever visits Taiwan, the biggest challenge is to try everything you come across or get offered because I promise that you will not regret it! Anyway, if you enjoyed this post please keep your eyes peeled for the next few posts because I will be talking more about the food and travels of Taiwan. Hope everyone stays safe xx

Until next time, Miss Ting Chen.
