My mum and I happened to be meeting up with my sister and my brother in law for lunch, I was completely dressed for maybe pho or very casual dining. But then, we ended up going to
Omeros Bros Seafood Restaurant. Thankfully, we sat outside so no one judged me for not being properly dressed for fine dining... but c'mon we do live on the Gold Coast! (haha). So I was pretty excited about eating here since it was my first time... and it definitely lived up to my expectations! The seafood was fresh and the food was delicious! Honestly, whenever I go to fine dining I always enjoy eating the entrées more than the mains... I don't know why... Is it just me?

My beautiful sister xx (thinking hard about what to order...) |
I don't blame her, I thought even harder about what to order. There was quite a wide range of different foods to choose from so I took forever deciding... I always do the most annoying thing ever(sigh), I take forever to read the menu - still can't decide on what to order and I just end up asking the waiter/waitress what they recommend... I can't help it! I've got to admit but I think i'm terrible at ordering food. And plus, what's wrong with asking for a recommendation? I understand if you're a picky eater and would just disregard the recommendation anyway... but since i'm not, I always order the recommendation 9/10 times haha. I reckon this way, I get to try what an 'insider' suggests me to eat.

Toasted Turkish breads and House Made Dips (was so yum!) |
Okay, so not only am I terrible at ordering... I'm also terrible at remember the exact name of what I ate. But thanks to their online menu, I can tell you exactly what I ordered! Unfortunately, to start of with the Turkish bread and dips - "Toasted Turkish Breads and House Made Dips" is literally what they wrote on the menu... So by memory, (from left to right) the dips are olive, feta and olive oil, and a caviar type of dip. Doesn't really help much... but they tasted amazing! (my fav was the caviar!)

Our entrées (from left to right: dozen of Kilpatrick Oysters, Baby Octopus and Mussels)
|
Once again, thanks to their menu... this is their exact names - (from left to right) Kilpatrick Oysters | bacon and worcestershire, flame grilled, crispy. Baby Octopus | cooked til tender and flamed grilled finished with lemon, garlic oregano, extra virgin olive oil or cooked in our home made sweet chilli plum sauce. Mussels a la parisienne | poached in our red wine and tomato veloute. Also, (photo below) Beer Battered Oysters | deep fried in a light beer batter. Trust me, these were ALL delicious! I do love entrées more than mains...

Extra spicy - Seafood Marinara (my mum loves hot food) |
My mum loves spicy food so we ordered her the Spaghetti Marinara | prawns, moreton bay bug, squid, mussels. You get the choice of: 1. infused with napoli sauce and basil. 2. garlic, chilli, lemon, italian parsley and extra virgin olive oil. 3. cream, garlic, basil, lemon. From what I remember, we got 2. with extra chillies and also another serve of chillies on the side... I like to eat spicy food, and honestly I have never been to a western restaurant where their 'spicy' was actually spicy... So when mum offered me some of her Seafood Marinara I said yes without even thinking and ended up setting my mouth on fire (it was actually so spicy!). So for all you spicy eaters or chilly lovers out there and have trouble finding a spicy seafood pasta to try, be sure to go try Omeros Bros Seafood Marinara with extra extra chillies.

Pumpkin and Macadamia Ravioli |
So as I was mentioning, I asked for the waiters recommendation and he kindly recommended me with their Pumpkin & Macadamia Ravioli | spinach, basil, sundried tomato, parmesan cream sauce. To be honest, I really liked the first few bites of it... but it was definitely a dish made to share (an asian thing?) I'm not sure if westerners could finish this by themselves because it was very rich and creamy (which is a good thing, don't get me wrong) but personally, I found it a bit sickening after a few more bites. The photo may not seem like a lot... but underneath the top layer of ravioli there was a whole heap more! So by the time I got half way through, I seriously could not eat anymore (I was also kind of full by then, because I pigged on the entrées so much). So I ended up asking if I could get it takeaway (I didn't want to waste it...) Which then, to my surprise - they actually said yes to takeaway. Usually Seafood restaurants say no to takeaways because it would be their responsibility if a customer got sick from eating bad seafood? even though they took it away from the restaurant... (I personally do not think it's the restaurants fault... because if you're going to take it away then shouldn't it be your own fault by then? Who knows how long you left it before eating it...) Anyway, I was happy that I could get them taken away because that night, I got super hungry (as usual, haha!) and then microwaved them and then devoured it all within minutes (I was definitely hungry...).

Surf and Turf |
Last but not least, my sister ordered the Surf & Turf | eye fillet with moreton bay bug tail, king prawns with a light mustard sauce. I got to try a bit and it was delicious! However, note... my sister asked them to serve the light mustard sauce on the side and she also ordered a red wine jus which was definitely a safe decision. She ended up disliking the mustard sauce (thankfully, they did not serve with it poured all over her dish) and she loved the combination with the red wine jus a lot. The steak was very tender and easy to eat. Would highly recommend this dish!
