Hey everyone! So today, I finally went to a thrift shop/second hand shop. Honestly, I have been wanting to go to one for a very very long time now but I was so unsure about going by myself. What made me finally decide on going was because firstly, my dad loves thrifting as well... he comes home with super decent clothes that only costed him like $4 and pretty much looks brand new! Secondly, I change my styles from day to day so nothing is consistent about what I wear... but I absolutely love vintage styles. The denims, high-waisted pants, vintage print blouses or even shoulder pads amazes me.
I sometimes wish I could go back in time and live through every generation/era of time - like the movie "The Age of Adaline", I absolutely loved that movie and loved every single outfit and style that Blake Lively pulled off so perfectly in the movie. I just wish that I could experience something similar - even though there were both pros and cons... like not being able to fall in love or having to separate yourself from your loved ones/ having to run away, constantly moving and changing your identity. But on the good side, there are lots of that too.
Another reason why I decided to start thrifting is because, I am saving up for lots of trips that I want to go on - and sometimes the urge of wanting to buy clothes and having to spend $30+ on one item is just too much. However, even if I didn't mind spending $20+ per item, I could never find that perfect vintage pencil skirt that i've been dying to own. So, knowing that no matter how hard I look, I will never find it in today's fashion, I decided to go thrifting and look for vintage pieces that I would adore!
So for anyone who doesn't know what thrifting is, here is a perfect definition. "When one visits several different thrift shops, second-hand shops, and vintage clothing stores in the hopes of buying several items of cheap and unusual clothing and other items. One usually does this with friends." (http://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=thrifting)
And, while researching for the definition I also came across an article written by Holly Brown that I absolutely enjoyed reading. So if you're interested in "The Golden Rules of Thrifting" have a look at this article - http://thebillfold.com/2012/06/the-golden-rules-of-thrifting/.
Lastly, I attached this photo because I actually found this denim jacket while thrifting! I am absolutely obsessed with it right now and I want to wear it everyday. It's a nice thick denim jacket but very lightly washed and it's a bit oversized so I rolled up the sleeves. Honestly, there is no way I could've bought that for only $10 in a normal store today.
I am going back thrifting again next week, and I am super excited to see what else I can find. Until next time...
